MetroMinute requires an iPhone with iOS 26 or later. You can allow location access to find a nearby supported stop, or choose an area and stop manually. Location permission is optional for using the app.
Current coverage is MTA Subway, PATH, and NYC Ferry in New York City; BART and Caltrain in the San Francisco Bay Area; MBTA rapid transit in Boston; and CTA ‘L’ in Chicago. Muni and Staten Island Ferry are not supported. NYC Ferry’s St. George route is part of NYC Ferry, a separate service from Staten Island Ferry.
Tap the region button at the top left to choose an area. Tap the search button at the top right to search by stop, route, or system within that area. Your most recent stops are saved locally, up to four per area.
To include or exclude systems, open the region chooser and tap the settings button beside New York City or the San Francisco Bay Area. Included Systems controls nearby stops, search results, and the widget. Keep at least one system enabled. If an expected stop is missing, check that its transit system is included.
Some shared rail stops show separate system tabs. Each tab has its own departures and service status, and MetroMinute remembers the selected tab for that stop. Nearby stops with similar names are not automatically combined.
The widget finds the nearest supported stop within your included systems. It does not pin the stop you manually selected in the app. At a supported shared stop, it follows your last selected included member system for that place.
Both sizes show up to two directions. Small displays up to two departures per direction; Medium displays up to four. Open the app to see additional directions or departures.
iOS controls widget updates and may delay them. A displayed countdown can lag behind current information; open MetroMinute to refresh the departure board. The app cannot guarantee an exact widget refresh interval.
Last nearby means the widget is showing still-valid departures from its previous nearby stop because a new location is temporarily unavailable. That stop may no longer be nearest to you. Expired departures are excluded from the fallback.
Location Unavailable can occur even with permission enabled, particularly after the widget has not been visible for a while. Open the app and return to the Home Screen to allow another update; replacement of the widget’s displayed content still depends on iOS.
If location is off or widget access has not been allowed, check Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → MetroMinute. You can continue to select a stop manually in the app without location access.
Live data depends on your network connection, the transit provider, and current service hours. Pull down on the departure board to refresh. Provider interruptions or access limits can affect arrivals while stop search remains available. If the issue continues, contact support with the affected stop and time.
PATH has no integrated service-alert feed. Other systems may have no active advisory to display. A missing alert in MetroMinute does not establish that service is running normally.
A countdown is a prediction. Due is shown only for supported provider-reported boarding states; neither indication guarantees that doors are open or a departure can still be boarded. Follow station or landing signage and staff instructions.
MetroMinute does not provide maps, trip planning, tickets, or an account. Transit information can change or become unavailable, and the app does not operate the transit services it displays.
